good
eatin': $5 - $10
Jack's Urban Eats
20TH
& CAPITOL
Jack's
has become one of the best midtown eateries around - whether you are in
the mood for a famous "big" salad or perhaps even a nice steak sandwich,
you'll see why the lines are always long. Their famous fries are to die
for! One plate will feed three people! A "can't miss" restaurant.
Mountain Mike's Pizza LA RIVIERA DR
All-You-Can-Eat Lunch Buffet...Who needs that Biology lab, anyway?
Mountain Make's serves as a good meeting place for any occasion. What else
can we say? It's the greatest pizza joint in town!
Crest Cafe
DOWNTOWN / K ST (Next to Crest Theater)
Crest Cafe is a bit different than you average burger fare... but it's a
great difference. They serve up great Mediterranean food, great wines, and
on the weekends they even have belly dancing! Sweet! We recommend the
kabobs - very tasty.
Mongolian BBQ HOWE AVE
Sit here for hours and make good on that all-you-can-eat offer. Cruise
over and make a big bowl-ful of Noodles and meat and whatever you want on
it. They cook it up right there in front of you. Just don't hand pack!
Mel's Diner HOWE AVE.
Mel's is a classic 1950's style Diner right out of Happy Days. The food is
great when you want something super tasty and you're not worrying about
calories. The entrees run from about $6.50 and up, but it comes with
fries/coleslaw. It might eventually become a big student hangout, once the
word gets out. Beers, TVs, jukeboxes... it's good stuff.
Bleacher's EXPOSITION AVE
They do have food here too, you know. Great food, even better drink
specials. They spin this giant wheel on occasion to see what the drink
special of the night is. Come here to watch Kings games, Giants games,
Niners, Raiders... you name it.
Merlino's Orange Freeze FOLSOM BLVD
You gotta have an Orange Freeze at least once while at Sac State. They're
kind of like a cross between slurpees and sweettarts. You have to taste
them to understand. They also serve a wide variety of burgers and stuff,
but check out the Orange Freeze at once! It is essential on those
100-degree days that we all know and love here in Sacramento.
Johnny Rocket's DOWNTOWN PLAZA (K ST MALL)
Definitely above-average burgers. Don't expect to see your food come all
at once, but it's a great atmosphere. They even have nickel jukeboxes! It
can be a great place to bring a date before you hit the movies right next
door.
La Bou HOWE AVE
When grease just won't do. Hit La Bou for great sandwiches, soups, or
salads. The food as a little pricey for everyday dining, but it's worth
the stop. Pretty interesting looking architecture.
Original Pete's Pizza HOWE AVE
Too much good stuff to eat here! Pizza, pasta, salads... you can't go
wrong at this place. Definite family atmosphere (if you're in to that sort
of thing).
Big Kahuna Burger K ST (DOWN BY HARD ROCK CAFE)
Inspired by the movie Pulp Fiction; make sure you get the Big Kahuna
Balls! Ask for them by name, if it's you're first time, they are free. If
you get a Big Kahuna Burger, it's a full 1/2 pound burger. It's HUGE! If
that's too much for you, order a "wimpy" burger - it's 1/4
pound, but is it worth the humiliation? They cater to the downtown office
crowd, so don't try coming by at night (they're closed).
Fresh Choice HOWE AVE
When grease just won't do II. Come here for great soups, salads, and
pasta. Always an excellent choice with women - great place to take a date.
Chances are you can't offend anyone!
Denny's COLLEGE TOWN
Hey, when the library closes, it's a good place to study. Time for the ol'
bottomless cup o' joe and a date with that Anthro book.
Lyon's HOWE AVE
Likewise on study breaks. Grab a seat and hit the books. The waitresses
will know what you're up to. Just tip them well!
Zelda's Pizza 21ST ST (MIDTOWN)
Midtown Pizza at its finest. Everything here from liquor to beer to pizza,
of course. You'll feel like family in this place. If you live in Midtown,
frequent this place often. Once you finally find the place, you'll be back
again and again.
